2012 WestSide PGA Tour Open Championship

The Westside PGA Tour Open Championship is here!! The site is Kokopelli Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona. It should be a nice day with the forecast predicted at 97 degrees. Handicaps have been updated and the cap will remain the same, after much though I decided that NOBODY should be able to win a major on this tour shooting over 105. The tour will be missing some of it's top players as they chose to take the weekend off to rest up for the final weeks on tour. 3 of the top 4 players are playing and are heavily favored to win the trophy. We have invited Berto along with us on this event because after all he has a chance to keep his trophy presentation streak alive! There is a dress code, but I know all the participants will be looking sharp out there as we do at all major events. It should be a great day of golf as everyone has a shot to win with the handicaps undoubtedly coming into play!

Results & Photos From Team Skins Weekend

Peoria Pines Golf Club was the home of our first ever team skins event. teams were determined by drawing names out of the hat and the teams were Chris & Mike, Charlie & Alexis, Mike Sr. & Nate, Rich& Don, Dylan & Berto. It was a very nice day for golf, we had a rainbow to start off the day and it was a very nice golf course to play. The skins were hard to come by with most of the holes pushing but in the end it was Rich & Don coming out ahead with 8 skins, Mike Sr. & Nate were right behind them with 6 skins. Chris & Mike grabbed 3 skins, Berto and Dylan got 1 Skin and the team of Charlie & Lex go the big donut winning no skins at all! The overall scores showed a different story, Mike Sr. & Nate had the lowest overall score of 66, Berto & Dylan came in with a 69 (that would be the score of any team berto is on). Lex & Charlie picked up 3rd with a 70, Rich & Don the skins leaders came in 4th with a 71 and rounding out the event scores were Mike & Chris with a 72. Up next is the Jesse Mireles Charity Classic At Palo Verde Golf Course the last event before the 2nd official major The Westside PGA Tour Open Championship!

Vistal Golf Results from July 8th & A Look Ahead

No Pictures of the golfers this week, it was a rough outing once again! The victory this week goes to two people, Charlie and Chris with a 92, the win however does come on a technicality. Mike brought out his ringer Uncle Roy who shot the lowest score of 91 but due to this being his first WSPGA event he is not eligible for the win. Carlo came in third with a 95, keeping up his streak of consecutive top 3 finishes at 9. Chris also passed Dylan with his back to back wins in the overall standings and is currently sitting in 2nd with 60 points behind only Carlo who has 62 total points.

Next up is the 1st ever skins tournament at Peoria Pines Golf Course, we will draw teams on sunday at the location. Skins will awarded on a hole by hole basis. The amount will be .25 per hole and two holes worth .50 so the 18 hole total will be $5 to both players on the winning team if they won all 18 holes. It is in a best ball format so both players will shoot and pick the best shot to continue the hole and so on. After careful consideration to make this event even more interesting we will be awarding points to the overall leader board following this event. This should make for some competitive golf.

The inspiration for the Westside PGA Charity Classic
July 22, 2012 brings in the first of our charitable contributions to the community as we present the Jesse Mireles Charity Classic at Palo Verde Golf Course. This is the event for those in the community who have fallen on rough times with the job market at it's low point and the economy not recovering for those on tour. Players are asked to donate a small portion towards the green fees of Jesse so he may get out on the tour and compete with the greats once again. The commish will cover any remaining fees not paid for by the tour members. This is our chance to give back and remember every little bit helps!

The next Major event for the tour is the Westside PGA Open on July 29th at Papago, points are doubled for this event so it can make or break the leader boards top contenders as we wind down the final month of the inaugural season for the Westside PGA.The schedule has been restructured for the final time. The last event is on Sunday August 26th and it will be the Westside PGA Players championship. This will also be the time where the overall points champion will be crowned! Football season starts in September so the tour will give up it's sundays for the #1 sport. We may have intermittent events to keep our players on the top of their games but the Tour will kick off again in the Summer of '13.

Match Play 2012!!

The Westside PGA Tour Match Play Championship went down July 1st! Chris Ortiz emerged as the 1st ever winner of the tournament, beating Charlie Hopkins after a huge mental breakdown on the final hole. It was a up and down day for Hopkins who had to stage a comeback in the first round against Magoo, who lost the match in a playoff hole. Troubled superstar Berto Chairez came out strong this week in an improbable match-up vs. the 1 seed Carlo. Ultimately Carlo pulled off the win but Berto who was fresh out from a meeting with Mr. Arpaio put on a good showing. Alexis, who boldly claimed a 5-4 victory fell to the eventual champion Chris even with all the trash talk Alexis couldn't muster up a challenge. Dylan advanced with a win over Mike in the first round, It was a valiant effort by Mike, even hitting a shot from across the street! but he just couldn't pull off the victory.
First Round Losers
The 2nd half of the tournament matched up Carlo and Charlie as well as Chris vs Dylan. It was a tough round for Dylan who wound up losing the match on the final hole, sending chris off to the finals! Charlie was able to shake off a strong comeback by Carlo in their matchup and won his matchup propelling him to go for his 2nd win in as many Major events!
The Final Four!
In the finals, Chris took on Charlie and it was a worthy finals matchup for 8 holes until Charlie had a classic meltdown! Hitting off trees, streets, and lord knows what else en route to coughing up the win and the trophy in the process!
